It’s a dream for hikers and mountain bikers. It’s a paradise for photographers. It’s a riot for off-roaders. The beauty and serenity make Sedona a hard place to leave for sure.
While in Sedona, we hiked and then we hiked some more. We put the jeep to work on the off-road trails, bumpy but nothing too technical. I photographed until my eyes were blurry and my camera was caked with dust from the red rocks.
We had a visit from Marilyn, Lauren, and Kelly for the MLK weekend (great acronym play, right?!). What a lovely time we had. Kelly broke in her new hiking boots. Lauren tried a new hiking-crawl technique. Marilyn was the belle of the birthday ball, as this trip was her birthday gift from the girls. Brian was an excellent tour guide, exploring possible off-road trails and picnic sites while us girls visited the spa. Thank you, ladies, for including our journey in your journey!
In Sedona, there is talk about vortexes/vortices which are spots where the earth seems alive with an energy that is conducive to healing and meditation. Sounds hippy-dippy, right? However, there I was feeling a vortex while traveling in the jeep up to the cow-pie hiking trail. Brian felt a vortex while playing golf. It was just like they say: a feeling of inspiration, recharging or euphoria. Go figure.
For day trips, we visited Jerome, a haunted copper mining town on a mountain with a priceless hundred-mile vista. We also ventured to Flagstaff for a look-see.
Brian played golf at the Seven Canyons golf course that is associated with the Enchantment resort. Nice course.
I took a couple of photography workshops with a very talented local photographer, Larry Lindahl (https://www.larrylindahl.com). I learned some great techniques, got some really nice shots and learned a little about life as an artist in Sedona. Thanks, Larry!
We stayed at the Rancho Sedona RV Park that was on Oak Creek. It was lovely to hear the water rushing in the creek and it was a nice walk into the center of town. The park is well cared for and we would recommend it.
We have been on the road now for ten weeks and we are here to tell you: this is a wonderful way to travel. WE LOVE IT…WE LOVE IT. (As the saying goes in our favorite 2019 Christmas commercial for GMC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bvrem8e9LHI)
