Water is a strong magnet for us and we’re pleased to find ourselves oceanside in Oceanside. We stayed at the Paradise by the Sea RV park in Oceanside. The park itself was ok with compact sites, pool and hottub, but the location is the very best thing: a quick 3-4 minute walk and you are out of the RV park, through the community park and at the public beach. There is a nearby train track for the commuter “Coaster” train, so peaceful this park was not with train horns as often as every 15 minutes or so and you get used to it. The town is congested, as are most on the California coast, with great restaurants and nice public beaches and parks. Most days found us taking long walks along the beach in the morning and catching the sunset around 5:30.
There is a great fishing pier where we watched the fishermen reel in their daily catch and watched the surfers ride in the next great wave.
Rain or shine, the biking, walking, running, skating, skateboarding, and surfboarding are non-stop. Love this! We took to the bike paths and biked to the marina to lunch and watch the sea lions lounge and bark on the docks.
There is a fabulous food vendor and farmer market on Wednesday nights in Carlsbad, we shopped and ate our way through. There is an even bigger food vendor, music, and craft market on Thursdays in Oceanside, and again, we shopped and ate our way through. What a nice way to spend an evening.
We toured up and down the coast, making it as far as La Jolla and San Diego. We like to explore the little towns and spent most of our time there.

Brian had the good fortune to golf Torrey Pines. You should see the smile on his face when he comes back from golfing a course like that! Reservations are usually months out and due to a rainy forecast, he was able to scoop in and play. The sun decided to shine on him and no need for the rain gear. Lucky Bri.
We find the price of groceries and fuel to be pretty high in Cali. We knew to expect this, but it’s eye opening when you pay that much for that little.
That’s a wrap from Oceanside,
Brian and Betty
