In December we took a trip to the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands are a self-governing British Overseas Territory located in the western Caribbean Sea. There are three islands: 1) Grand Cayman, which is the largest and most populated, Cayman Brac, second largest and Little Caymen, population below 200. Americans tend to pronounce it “Caymen” but the Caymanians pronounce it “Cayman“.
In 1997, for our tenth wedding anniversary, Brian and I took a NAUI scuba certification course in the pool at Kalamazoo College. We have been diving ever since and love it more each time.
For this trip we spent a few days on Grand Cayman relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous weather and atmosphere.
Following Grand Cayman, we took a small plane to Little Cayman for a week of diving. This was our fifth visit to Little Cayman and it feels like coming home. The airport is tiny with the fire truck located 15 feet from the entrance to the ticket office.
The Little Cayman Beach Resort is a favorite dive location for us. We make good friends each time we go and the staff is like family. We enjoy it so much, we named our boat, Reef Diver after the Reef Divers dive operation at the resort.
Dive trips for us are pretty consistent: Eat, Dive, Sleep, repeat.
