Argentina: San Carlos de Bariloche

San Carlos de Bariloche (Bariloche) is a town in Argentina’s Patagonia region. Bariloche is in the Lake District, bordering Lago Nahuel Huapi. It’s known for its many glacial lakes, Swiss alpine-style architecture, chocolate, hiking and skiing.

We stayed at the Llao LLao(pronounce Yao Yao) resort about 40 minutes on Route 40 outside of the center of Bariloche. The historical resort was beautiful and well away from the chaos of Bariloche.

We did our share of morning hikes, attempting to get ahead of the afternoon heat. Sunrise is at 7 am and sunset is around 9 pm, followed by starry skies.

We love the local cuisine: beef steaks, chocolate, especially the chocolate-covered frozen raspberries, fine Mendoza Malbec and dulce de leche ev-er-y-thing. Patagonians have a beautiful lifestyle.

We toured the Lake District by car and went as far as Villa La Angoustra. It was one stunning, crystal-clear lake after another. Amazing.

We took the Teleferico Cerra Otto to enjoy the views…

Sunrise and nature views…
