Argentina: Buenos Aries

The city of “good aires”, sometimes referred to as the Paris of South America, is chic, happening, and HOT, HOT,HOT. We spent a week in BA while the temps were near 100F in the day and not much lower in the evenings.

Our daughter and her boyfriend, Bryan, were in BA for an extended stay and they were the inspiration for our trip. We overlapped with Bryan’s parents and we had a fun time dining and doing a little touring together.

There are many expatriates in BA and English language is somewhat common, but knowing some Spanish is vey helpful.

Our first hotel was in the Retiro area and after a few days we decided to move to SoHo Palermo to be within walking distance to Steph & Bryan. Shots below from the Retiro hotel.

As we often do, we took the hop-on-hop-off bus tour to get the lay of the city. The people, the street vendors, the architecture were so fun to view from the bus top.

The city is high on the 2022 World Cup win and many people sport the blue and white stripe jerseys and many walls display tribute murals.

We enjoyed a Tango show at the Teatro Astor Piazzolla…

One of our favorite dinners was at the Don Julio steakhouse in SoHo Palermo.

We toured the Recoleta Cemetery which has been named one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. This cemetery is the resting place of Argentine presidents, Nobel Prize winners, Eve Peron (“Evita”) and many others.

We toured the ecopark & rose gardens. We wandered through many neighborhoods, taking in the sights and museums (many are free).

We consumed plenty or ceviche and empanadas, empanadas, empanadas. Yum.

The blue dollar exchange is better than the official exchange rate and worth researching if you plan to travel to Argentina.

That’s a wrap from South America.

Chau,

Betty & Brian
