Vieux Carre? Nola? ‘Nawlins? Crescent City? The Big Easy? The CIty that Care Forgot? What do you call New Orleans?
- Vieux Carré: (VOO-kar-A) The old name for the French Quarter in New Orleans, meaning ‘Old Square’ in French
- Nola: New Orleans, LA
- ‘Nawlins: slang for New Orleans, pronounced like it looks
- Crescent City: because the original town was built at a sharp bend in the Mississippi River
- The Big Easy: because life is Easy going compared to the Big Apple
- The City that Care Forgot: originates in a 1910 ad for the St. Charles Hotel, designed to draw trade to the hotel during Mardi Gras

Good sightseeing, entertainment and food is always on in New Orleans. Don’t forget attitude, lotta’ attitude as demonstrated in this shoe store sign. “Tapping on the glass can give the shoes a concussion.”
We stayed at the Pontchartrain Landings RV Resort and Marina on a Lake Pontchartrain canal. The view from our coach was a grand river boat. It was a 15 minute commute by car or shuttle into the French Quarter. Parking was easy at the visitor center and we preferred that.

A word of advice: If you see a photo-bombing-sword-carrying clown, go the other way. You just don’t need that in your life.
Thanksgiving was non-traditional with dinner at The Country Club in Bywater. They offered turkey but we opted for regional dishes and it was crazy good. After dinner, we did what many New Orleanians do, we went to the horse races. People dress in hats, fascinators, costumes , you name it. If only we knew sooner, we would have been in on the costumes.

We spent our last night at the New Orleans Superdome watching the Bayou Battle of the Bands. Brian has an old friend from Upjohn who recommended it so we bought tickets and joined in. Amazing marching band competition between Grambling State University and Southern University. We favored Southern.

Love NOLA! Looked fun! See any second lines in the FQ? I can’t wait to see your next stop/post!
Living vicariously, your friend Sharon😊
